2. Information We Collect

A. Information you provide directly

We may collect:

  • your name or display name;
  • your email address, if provided through Sign in with Apple or support communications;
  • account identifiers;
  • profile information;
  • mood check-ins and related timestamps;
  • optional photos or images you upload;
  • invite-related information, including invite tokens and inviter names;
  • support messages and other communications you send us.

We may collect:

  • device type, operating system, app version, and language settings;
  • log data, diagnostics, crash data, and security events;
  • app usage information, such as feature interactions and session events;

  • other users, for example when someone invites you to join Kin.

D. Sensitive data / consumer health data

Mood check-ins, emotional-state information, and related patterns or summaries may be considered sensitive personal data or consumer health data under some laws. We treat this information with heightened care.

3. How We Use Information

We use information to:

  • create and manage your account;
  • authenticate you and keep the Service secure;
  • provide core features, including mood sharing, private connections, and invite flows;
  • deliver notifications you request;
  • host, display, and sync User Content you choose to share;

4. How We Share Information

A. With the people you choose

Your mood check-ins, profile name, optional photos, and related updates may be shared with the connections you choose inside the Service.

B. With service providers

We may share information with vendors and processors that provide services on our behalf, such as:

  • authentication providers;
  • cloud hosting and database providers;
  • content delivery or web hosting providers;
  • customer support tools;
  • analytics, security, and diagnostics tools; and
  • payment and subscription infrastructure providers.

These parties are authorized to process information only as needed to provide services to us, subject to contractual and legal restrictions.

  • comply with law, regulation, legal process, or government request;
  • enforce our Terms or other agreements;
  • detect, prevent, or address fraud, security, or technical issues; or
  • protect the rights, property, safety, or security of Kin, our users, or others.

D. Business transfers

We may disclose information in connection with an actual or proposed merger, financing, acquisition, bankruptcy, sale of assets, or similar transaction, subject to applicable confidentiality and legal requirements.

E. With your direction or consent

We may share information when you ask us to or otherwise consent.

5. No Sale or Cross-Context Behavioral Advertising

We do not sell personal information.

We do not share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising.

We do not build public profiles, sell data broker lists, or provide user mood data to advertising networks for targeted advertising.

6. Cookies, Similar Technologies, and Website Signals

We may use cookies, local storage, and similar technologies on our website or invite pages for:

  • site functionality;
  • security;
  • load balancing;
  • fraud prevention; and
  • limited measurement or diagnostics, if enabled.

We do not currently respond to browser "Do Not Track" signals as a separate mechanism. Because we do not sell personal information or share it for cross-context behavioral advertising, we do not treat those signals as a separate opt-out for those activities at this time.

If we later enable non-essential analytics, adtech, or other tracking technologies, we will update this Privacy Policy and implement any additional disclosures or choices required by law.

7. Data Retention

We retain personal information for as long as reasonably necessary for the purposes described in this Privacy Policy, including to provide the Service, comply with law, resolve disputes, and enforce our agreements.

In general:

  • account information is retained while your account is active and for a limited period afterward as needed for legal, security, and operational reasons;
  • mood history is retained until you delete it, delete your account, or we no longer need it for the Service;
  • invite link records are typically short-lived and may expire automatically;
  • logs and diagnostics may be retained for a limited period for security and troubleshooting.

We may delete or de-identify data earlier where appropriate.

8. Data Security

We use reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational measures designed to protect personal information. However, no method of transmission over the Internet or method of storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

9. Your Privacy Rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights under applicable law, including the right to:

  • know whether we process your personal information;

  • correct inaccurate personal information;
  • delete personal information;
  • obtain a portable copy of certain personal information;
  • withdraw consent where processing is based on consent;
  • appeal certain privacy-rights decisions, where applicable; and
  • opt out of the sale of personal information, targeted advertising, or certain profiling, if those activities apply.

Because Kin does not sell personal information or use cross-context behavioral advertising, those opt-out rights may not apply to our current practices.
